Did you know that crocodiles (mamba in Swahili) have been around for 240 million years? And did you know they even appeared 25 million years before the first dinosaur and a stunning 100 million years before the first mammals and birds? They have managed to survive all these centuries due to their excellent survival skills. They can for example go up to two years without eating, ambush a pray for several hours up to a week and are able to eat carcasses and not just fresh meat. In our times crocodiles are the largest living reptiles, with the Nile crocodile in Kenya being the second one in size. Adult males grow up to 5 meters long, with an average weight of over 400 kilograms. They live in many of the national parks, but in the Mamba Village Center it’s possible to see them up close and learn more about them. Big Daddy The guides at Mamba Village are all fascinated by these special creatures and will tell you all there is to know about them. You can hold a baby crocodile, and see the fascinating feed of adult crocs who in water reach a speed of 80 kilometers per hour when grabbing food! The largest crocodile in the village is Big Daddy, who is said to be 110 years old. The park also hosts snakes and some other reptiles and it’s possible to hold a python.
